Concept
Light Spaces
Once again it was the moat-type part of the Oker River and the Oker meadows, these contrasting and hidden spaces, combining the atmosphere of private terraces and public green spaces, that surprised and delighted the artists invited to take part in the Light Trail 2010 and won them over for the project. No other city has this almost magical mix of green vegetation, water and art trail, waiting like an invigorating elixir to be discovered by the nocturnal wanderer. The art works along the new light trail illustrate the most varied light conditions, including a concentration on pure light as a self-referential medium, confronting the observer with the optical qualities of light, artistic/optical fringe phenomena, iconographically determined projection, living flames, (light) messages as well as scenographic installations, producing awe-inspiring effects in the darkness of the water course and creating areas of sensuous experience.
Projection
The Oker River is transformed into a screen on which contemporary art is projected. At the same time, some of the artists utilize the water as a mirror in which their work is quite literally reflected. Thus individual works in the form of a still life are represented again in this year's light trail, but also, for the first time, serial elements, which define the course of the river through the city, use light to provide orientation for the observer, and simultaneously display the multifacetted nature of the urban landscape. Like its predecessors, this trail aims to be more than an exhibition – it also seeks to improve the quality of the urban space as an expression of cultural policy.
